Methocarbamol

Methocarbamol is central nervous system depressant and is being used to relieve the pain of muscle injuries, spasms, sprains, and strains.

Methocarbamol is an aromatic glycerol ether and is a close chemical relative to mephenesin carbamate, the oldest and most extensively studied of the drugs in this class. The chemical name is 3-(o-Methoxyphenoxy)-1, 2-propanediol, 1-carbamate. Methocarbamol Tablets, USP 500 mg and 750 mg contain the following inactive ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, sodium starch glycolate, pregelatinized starch and stearic acid.

Methocarbamol Tablets are indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomforts associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The mode of action of this drug has not been clearly identified, but may be related to its sedative properties. Methocarbamol does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles in man
