Seasonal & Photic & Idiopathic HS Treatment Options

Riding indoors during bright sunny days

Turn out nights only or on cloudy /rainy days

Applying sun shades via a special facial mask or hood

Nose Nets in connection with sun shade mask

Change of location of horse, even for a temporary time

Adaptogens - These herbs are used in horses, which have had all examination necessary to exclude any other causes leading to HS. In other words: adaptogens can't heal your horse, if the cause of HS is a pinched nerves (simple spoken) at the 2nd vertebrae or if he/her suffers of TMD, aso. It is highly recommended to have the horse thoroughly examined before "trying" anything else.

Cyproheptadine

Carbamazepine

Steroids

Melatonin to balance the body's own deficit, if established by vet!

Serotonin   !!!

If allergy symptoms, treatment with anti drugs/remedies plus all other allergy prevention, like soaking hay & feed, etc.

As homeopathic pain blocker: Heel Colocynthis Homaccord 1.1 ml vials  (worked in 3 horses as far as I know)

Neurectomy

Vitamin B's

Acupuncture was tried in several horses, I have not heard of any horse being relieved of his pain due to this treatment.

There are some claims of success in using holistic methods such as Biofeedback, studies are being conducted in human. Also the healing sensations by Esoterism followers and purified/energized glasses of water and similar news hit the German news tickers of equine magazines. No proof is available to non-believers/members of this philosophy of life. One can't see the before and after on video or any veterinary statements, no studies are available.

A word of caution: BEFORE you administer any drug or remedy or SUPPLEMENT like melatonin/serotonin/magnesium/natrium/phosphorus aso. consult your vet!! He would need to examine the horse thoroughly and have the blood examined to establish the need for any supplement.

!!! Deficient (and sometimes, excessive) intake of various dietary minerals and vitamins can lead to disturbed levels of serotonin via disrupting either the production or reuptake processes. Care must be taken in any attempt to increase serotonin levels, as a dangerous condition known as serotonin syndrome may result. This is especially a concern if multiple serotonergic agents interact to increase 5-HT levels - such as can happen when St Johns Wort is taken in combination with an SSRI.

Esoterism is a willed spiritual power achieved through " secrets " or techniques. Far from liberating man, these secrets and techniques create an artificial spiritualism within which the " man with knowledge " locks himself up. The illusion of " knowing " prevents one from hearing God who reveals himself by speaking to those who are sufficiently humble to want to know him as he himself tells us he is. And so some people enclose themselves in a theory of numerology ; others in the various boxes of determinist characterology ; yet others in horoscope columns ; others in meditation techniques.
